Liverpool 5G wins ‘5G Innovation of the Year’ Award

The Liverpool 5G planning tool has been crowned ‘5G Innovation of the Year’ at the DigiLeaders100 Awards.

In the centre: Ann Williams, from Liverpool City Council, and Jen Laing, from CGA Simulation. Jen designed the Liverpool 5G planning tool

‘5G Innovation’ is a special category introduced by DigiLeaders to demonstrate the amazing projects happening in a new area of digital transformation.

Other final seven nominees included Connected Cowes, the Live + Wild project, and Zeetta Netsplicer, a multi-domain orchestrator for private mobile networks.

The Liverpool 5G network’s Planning Tool, created by partners CGA Simulation, uses ‘digital twin’ technology, artificial intelligence, and gaming visualisation to create a 3D copy of a project area, enabling those planning a 5G network to accurately plot ling-of-sight for 5G receivers. This innovative tool greatly reduces the manual workload and resources required to plan a 5G network, reducing time and costs, and providing valuable outputs including installation instructions and a bespoke google map.

The win was announced at a ceremony at Aqua Shard, London, on 11th November.
