Liverpool 5G featured in UK5G Innovation Briefing

UK5G’s Innovation Briefing magazine put the spotlight on Liverpool 5G in its first edition of 2021. The article, “You’ll Never Talk Alone”, looked at the real-world needs the project is addressing and the role of several partners within the project.

The piece highlights how the Liverpool 5G team recognised the health and social care inequalities caused by the digital divide, and rolled out the initial 5G Testbed & Trials Programme back in April 2018. The importance of connectivity for disadvantaged families was brought in to sharp focus when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, and remains a key issue in ensuring equal access to public health services in the future.

Describing the project as ‘pioneering work’, the article goes on to detail the many varied partners involved, from Liverpool City Council’s telecare expert Ann Williams, to Liverpool John Moores University’s cyber-security expertise, and the eHealth Cluster’s facilitation.

With a range of Use Cases from anxiety management app Chill Panda, to pressure ulcer and wound online management, the project demonstrates the dual benefits of improvements to health, social care, and education, with cost-saving for the NHS that private 5G networks can provide.

Innovation Briefing is published by UK5G and printed quarterly to highlight the exciting work happening within the world of 5G in the UK. You can read the article in full here
